Important Modernist Prototype Desk & Chair by U.A.M. Attributed to Le Corbusier

About the Item

Rare handmade French modernist desk and chair prototypes in hand-formed and hand-hammered (non-commerially produced) tubular steel. The chair and desk are elegant architectural statements in their form and lines. Original top of sand-cast and steel rolled sand cast glass in a light green color by Saint Gobain, Neuilly sur Seine. The U.A.M., Union Des Artistes Modernes was a break-away society from the Traditional French Decorators formed in the late 1920s. Le Corbusier and Robert Mallet-Stevens produced work similar to these pieces in a finished, commercially produced steel Literature: LECLERE, Design, Marseille, 14 February 2017, pps. 9-13 for two similar models by Charlotte Perriand, Charles Edouard Jeanneret (Le Corbusier) and Pierre Jeanneret.
