20thC Rosewood Dining Table & Chairs By Hans Brattrud For Hove Mobler, Norway
About the Item
A rosewood dining table and chairs by Hans Brattrud for Hove Mobler, Norway, 1960s. This stunning set consists of four rosewood 'Scandia' dining chairs on tubular steel supports, together with a 'Scandia' dining table. The table top is formed from laminated plywood with rosewood veneer, also raised over steel supports.
Hans Brattrud designed the Scandia stackable chair in 1957 as a student project at the National College of Art & Design in Oslo. The Scandia seat range includes a stackable chair, lounge chair and an easy chair, all with accompanying tables. In 1960, the chairs were made and additional models developed. The Scandia chair program won recognition and instantly became a real eye-catcher at various exhibitions and fairs. In 1967, the Scandia stackable chair was awarded with a gold medal at the International arts and crafts fair in Munich. That same year also received "The Award for Design Excellence" by the Norwegian Design Council. As late as 2006, the Scandia easy chair received the "Interior Innovation Award Cologne 2006" and was nominated for "The Design Award of the Federal Republic of Germany.
The table emanates the same Scandinavian pedigree with clean lines and showcases a stunning rosewood grain. Together they combine to make an elegant dining room suite which looks as modern today as it did more than half a century ago.
