Jacques Uppelschoten Bossche School Dining Set, 1978

About the Item

Rare and very nice example of the "Bossche school" furniture by architect Jacques Uppelschoten, made for his own house at the Raffendonkstraat 20 in Oirschot. Dom Hans van der Laan stood at the beginning of the architectural movement in which it was common to design furniture and bespoke interior features specifically for a building, mostly religious buildings. This dining set is designed according to 'het plastische getal' (plastic number) which was invented by Dom Hans van der Laan and which was a way of designing furniture in a mathematical way. Van der Laan had many followers and apprentices who designed and built according to his invented way of creating architecture and design. Jacques Uppelschoten was a lesser-known architect and follower of Bossche School. His house of course, was also completely built in de Bossche school style. The table and stool are made of pine wooden planks, nailed on an inner wooden structure. The nails give the pieces an extra dimension and was a trademark for works from de Bossche School. It characterizes the pieces, and it was a clear choice to choose for very visible nails, for that matter the carpentry had to be perfectly aligned, which it always was. The table was made together with his house in 1978 and have been repainted in the 1990s as white had become fashion, the original colour is visible underneath 1 of the stools and was grey, possibly it can still be restored if wanted. On the last picture you will see the house of Jacques Uppelschoten, where you can still see a grey gate which was the leading colour of the interiors home at the time. Priced and sold in a set only.

  • Edoardo Landi Dining Table Studio D, Italy, 1973
    By Edoardo Landi
    Located in Roosendaal, Noord Brabant
Architectural dining table model T30 designed by Edoardo Landi and manufactured by Studio D, Italy 1973. This table is designed by Architect Landi in 1973, and was produced in a very small series by StudioD, together with some chairs, cabinets and tables. This table is made of solid pine wood and is stained in black, it has a glass top in the center which gives the table a nice transparent look. This table is a typical architects design, its clearly visible in the way its constructed and shaped. The table is differenly nice from every angle and is very nice in use as well. The middle part is open and can be used to store items, books, or paper work and it will be only visible from the top and sides. The table can be fully dis assembled for safe shipping. This is one of the most stunning tables I have seen recently and reminds a lot of the later designs by Jose Zanine Caldas as well. Documentation is available but not included in the sale. The table can use up to 8 chairs and the chairs on the picture are not included in this listing. Edoardo Landi studied architecture at the Scuola Superiore di Disegno Industriale, Venice. 1959–1964 founding member of Gruppo N...
