About the Item

This is an elegant dining set comprising a vintage George III Regency style dining table, mid-20th century in date, with a fabulous set of fourteen antique Victorian dining chairs circa 1870 in date. The table has two additional leaves which can be added or removed as required to suit the occassion, and is raised on twin "gun barrel" turned columns on quadruple reeded swept leg bases which are fitted with brass cap castors. The tabletop is of beautiful flame mahogany and there is no mistaking the fine craftsmanship of this handsome dining table which is certain to become a treasured addition to your furniture collection, and a talking point with guests at meal times. The superb and rare set of fourteen antique Victorian mahogany dining chairs have upholstered padded backs, stuff over seats and they are raised on elegant turned forelegs that terminate in brass and porcelain castors with sabre rear legs. They have been reupholstered in a sumptuous Cardinal Red damask with expertly double piped borders. It is a very impressive set which is sure to contribute to successful dinner parties. Matching his words to his work, Sheraton designed much mahogany furniture. The qualities that impressed Sheraton are particularly evident in a distinctive pattern of wood called "flame mahogany." The flame figure in the wood is revealed by slicing through the face of the branch at the point where it joins another element of the tree.
