About the Item

An exceptional William IV rosewood circular dining table London, circa 1830 This superior circular dining table is crafted of the finest grade of materials throughout. A product of the William IV period, the table was likely crafted in London circa 1830. The rosewood veneers are beautifully matched to create chaotic displays of grain movement throughout the top, this surrounded by a crossbanded outer ring and a bevelled edge. Original brass hardware on the underside allows the top to unlatch, tilt and then easily lift off of the base, making it safely transportable - this is likely why the table has remained in such pristine original condition over the years. The timbers selected for the underside of the tabletop are gorgeous, a testament to the demanding eye the craftsman had in designing this table. A faceted column is raised over a tri-form base resting over bun feet with a simple draped relief. These tables became increasingly popular during the first quarter of the 19th century, stepping away from rectangular tables where rank in the home was ever-present into the more democratic circular form where no seat had a particular advantage over the other. For the classical home, this is an exquisite find for its condition, superior material and self-evident quality. The round form allows it to function equally as a breakfast table, dining table and centre table for a large entryway. Measurements: 52 1/2” diameter x 28 1/4” height.
