About the Item

The natural look! We are now making this table in a natural wood finished with a clear acrylic satin sealer to make it user friendly without changing the color. Great contemporary look. Shown here with a bookmatched figured maple top that is 38" wide x 98 3/4" and a poplar base. Table seats 8 - 10 comfortably. Inspired by an 18th century Swedish-Gustavian table that is in our inventory. This very handsome and solidly-built trestle base table was fabricated in our workshop. Table can be purchased with a maple, walnut or cherry top. This table dismantles into five main sections for ease in shipping. An important connection! We use 2 sliding dovetail trestle cross braces to connect the table to the trestle bases. This is done by cutting a dovetail socket the width of the underside of the table and then driving the pin and tail cut on the top of the cross brace through the channel. This allows the table to expand and contract regardless of your climatic conditions and will prevent the table top from checking or cupping. The support bracket is then pegged to the upper trestle bases . Our cabinetry employees all 19th century joinery techniques and practices that we have learned and come to understand through 30 years of restoration. The wood we use for the tops is sourced from a small family mill in Pennsylvania that only cuts old growth trees that are in distress. There wood is extraordinary and unlike commercially available lumber the grain is tight, the planks are wide and the surface patterns can be exceptional. It is comparable to wood used for cabinetry back in the 19th century. More options: Shown in photos as a 8' table but can be custom made to any size in various woods. Please call for pricing.
