Café Solid
About the Item
The Café Solid table originated from a material experiment: The studio has gained a lot of experience with solid surface within various interior projects and we were looking for new ways to further investigate the versatility and apply the material.
Café Solid refers to an ancient weaving technique used in tablecloths; the tables appear to be covered with a damask tablecloth, made of white GetaCore, a solid surface material. The material is bent under heat, mimicking the natural drape of a tablecloth.
The well-known Dutch tattoo artist Robert Aalbers drew a contemporary and daring pattern in the spirit of a Persian carpet. This pattern has been sandblasted onto the GetaCore tabletop. Under the influence of light (just like with damask) the print appears or disappears more into the background. The brutal frame gives the table definition and the right balance between softness and brutality. The design and execution are surprising and strong.

Atelier Ruben van Megen
Atelier Ruben van Megen develops collectible design, products and interiors that excel in craftsmanship, aesthetics and use of materials. The award-winning atelier often international presented.
