About the Item
Introducing a rare, ultra-functional Model DC06 expansion "Lotus" dining table by Skovby Møbelfabrik. Featuring exquisite teak woodgrains, as well as an ingenious wheel design that turns under the the table top, much like a ships wheel, allowing the leaves stowed within to open out like a lotus flower this extraordinary piece is as versatile as it is aesthetically captivating. When closed the table is round, but when expanded the table undergoes a geometric metamorphosis transforming into a triangular-shaped table top with a black-painted triangle located within the teak triangle.
Skovby Møbelfabrik was founded in 1933 by Danish cabinetmaker Thorvald Rasmussen. He was a visionary designer who introduced innovative and complex designs to the Danish Modern aesthetic usually known for being minimalist and spartan in appearance. He was uncompromising and professionally proud, and from the start produced furniture of the highest quality. Skovby is still family-owned and producing pieces and variations of the DC06 in Denmark to this day - a testament to the staying power of a company focused on uncompromising material use and innovative, functional designs.

This fascinating Model DC06 expansion dining table is in 100% original condition and has aged to perfection! The mix of solid and veneered Burmese teak is in very good shape showing only minor surface scratches on the table top. The wear is mostly relegated to the base which shoes some scratches and gouges which can be seen clearly in the detail photos provided.
The top expands via an ingenious wheel design that turns under the the table top, much like a ships wheel, allowing the leaves stowed within to open out like a lotus flower. All leaves are in excellent condition and the table open and closes in mere seconds with minimal effort.
