Double Dining Table / Desk "Nazca"

About the Item

Sculptural dining table in two sections, each 7 feet long, that can be joined together or used separately as needed. One table can also be used as a desk. The angular legs and top give a sense of perpetual movement to the work as it animates its surroundings. This table in ebonized spruce can be ordered custom and comes apart for shipping. Lean and angular like his sculptures, French artist Jacques Jarrige has developed an expressive and sensuous body of work since the 1980s. He enjoys a devoted following in Europe, particularly in his native France, where museums have been collecting his work. Since joining Valerie Goodman Gallery in 2010 he is increasingly sought after by American collectors, aided by design and art magazines that depict his work with frequency. Since 2012 he exhibited at institutions such as the Queens museum, RoCA, the Museum of Art and Design in New York, Aqua Miami, as well as France and in Taiwan. A monography on the artist will be published in the fall of 2021. The line of his sculptures rather than tracing the shape or defining a volume creates a dialogue between form and space. As if working with fluid living material, Jacques Jarrige inserts form into space, just as a meandering river expresses the landscape with every turn: its banks a line of perpetual movement, as alive as the water itself. The flowing line tentatively finds its way, fitting the environment. Its subtle vibration infuses the form and brings space to life. The object becomes calligraphy: vivifying the void. In recent years Jarrige’s forms have become increasingly porous — with an ease resembling the forces that sculpt nature, his recent works express the essential. His organic shapes owe as much to Jean Arp and Henry Moore as to Giovanni Pennone. Renouncing stylistic clichés, Jacques Jarrige strips bare his forms to reach the essential while developing a free and simple vocabulary that literally embodies his human and spiritual essence. Working with archetype forms, Jacques Jarrige gives his objects the imprimatur of timelessness, they vibrate in a fleeting, uncertain space. But in this fluid space the forces of nature play harmoniously in eternity.
