English c1880 Lutyens Style Lift Off Scrub Top Pine Prep/Serving Table Oak Base
About the Item
This is such a pleasing English circa 1880 Lutyens Style Country House Kitchen Pantry/Preparation or Serving Table in its original condition. It is finished in the round with a removable scrub top in Pine; the Oak base has a four column form leg and has a perfect time worn white/ivory paint finish.
There is such a simplistic charm to the scrubbed back pine top of this table which reflects the many generations of use and wear is an inevitable part of that but is also where the character and strength of this lovely table start to emerge. The substantial oak base has a such a perfect time worn white/ivory paint patina and the naturally occurring craquelure of the paint finish is a mark of authenticity and character.
The dimensions of this table are such that it could be ideal as a work table for an office/study, a table in a room large enough to accommodate it for multi-purpose use or for its original purpose in the kitchen as the original title suggests. It has so much charm and functionality that it would make a great addition to any room or for any purpose.

The most interesting aspect of our Antique Irish Pine Small Table is the Patina of the Scrubbed Pine Top. Try as we might, there is simply no way to duplicate a real 100-year-old patina. In order to preserve the patina of the pine, we chose to coat it with paraffin wax and not simply apply a coat of beeswax. The real difference between the two waxes is the length of time in which they last. Beeswax is maybe good for a few months of use, while a good coating of paraffin will last for years. Yes, it does take several hours to apply, but not only does it look terrific, but is feels good to the touch. We all facilitated between stripping off the old white paint or leaving it was is and you can see we left the old white crumbly and cracked paint as is.
