Large Vintage Mirror Topped Dining Table in the Manner of Jansen

About the Item

This table in carved gilded and painted wood was made in the 1940s. The style is Louis XVI with Italian overtones but sleek and dramatic. The gilding is oil and water gilding creating a rich effect with red boulle rub through and an old world color. Its possible the table may have a one time been topped with a marble inset slab. The construction is very heavy and designed to support the weight. The current engraved mirrored top seems to be added after the tables initial construction but at great cost and expense around the 1960s. The mirror has a large central area with an outer engraved border of interlocking ovals that runs completely around the outside edge complementing the carved border that runs around the outside apron of the table.
