About the Item

Country French Dining Table, incredible Sofa Table, or Console Table was made in the South of France in a Trestle style however, the question remains when? The gentleman in France, Monsieur Philippe Royère was appointed expert (appraiser) to the Court of Appeal of Versailles in 1985. Philippe Royère specializes in 17th, 18th and 19th century furniture. The appraiser’s written description goes as follows: “importante table de monastère, en bois naturel mouluré et sculpté, pieds 1200 balustres réunis pas une entretoise.76x300x89 cm XVIIIe siècle. Restaurations d'usage.” Roughly this translates to: Important monastery table, natural wood moulded and sculpted, feet 1200 balusters gathered by a spacer.76x300x89 cm 18th century, restorations customary. The only reason I have included the above text in reference to this drop-dead gorgeous Country French Dining Table, is because I have my own personal reservations. No, I am no expert, nor pretend to be, however, after importing from Europe since 1977 and professionally since 1991, you do learn a few things. My non-professional opinion is, that this beautiful French walnut dining table was made by Quinta from Perpignan, France. Monsieur Quinta for decades created the finest Country French Dining Tables that I have ever seen and were frequently displayed in Architectural Digest. Quinta’s notoriety was partially based on the woods he chose and every board had to be air-dried outside for 9-years before being used and his most famous of woods was the French Walnut, which is what our French Dining Table was crafted from. Sadly, Quinta closed shop many years ago and now his Country French Dining Tables are highly sought after by those who appreciate only the finest. I could be right or the French expert could be correct and the Table could easily be 200-years old plus?
