About the Item

This is a beautiful Regency style dining or conference table which will seat sixteen people in comfort and eighteen to twenty if required, dating from the last quarter of the 20th century. There is no mistaking the fine craftsmanship of this handsome table, which is certain to become a treasured addition to your furniture collection, and a talking point with guests at meal time. This table is made from flame mahogany and features an elegant crossbanded satinwood border. The table has two leaves which can be added or removed as required to suit the occasion and it stands on three "gun barrel" triple leg bases which terminate in brass "Lion's paw"toes and castors. Matching chairs are available if required. Condition: In excellent condition, please see photos for confirmation of condition. Dimensions in cm: Height 76 x width 490 x depth 117 - When fully extended. Height 76 x width 344 x depth 117 - With both leaves removed. Dimensions in inches: Height 2 feet, 6 inches x width 16 feet, 1 inch x depth 3 feet, 10 inches - When fully extended. Height 2 feet, 6 inches x width 11 feet, 3 inches x depth 3 feet, 10 inches - With both leaves removed. Thomas Sheraton - 18th century furniture designer, once characterized mahogany as "best suited to furniture where strength is demanded as well as a wood that works up easily, has a beautiful figure and polishes so well that it is an ornament to any room in which it may be placed." Matching his words to his work, Sheraton designed much mahogany furniture. The qualities that impressed Sheraton are particularly evident in a distinctive pattern of wood called "flame mahogany." The flame figure in the wood is revealed by slicing through the face of the branch at the point where it joins another element of the tree.
