About the Item

Made in Vermont circa 1820 this fine old country drop leaf table retains if not its original surface a very old one. Constructed by a craftsmen using pegs and hand plained local tiger maple the table is heavy and solid. Typical of early New England federal furniture this table is simple and relies mostly on the amazing honey color and nature of the wood with the exposed pegs as its only real decorative detail. It honors the craftsmen and the notion of rugged independence we are famous for in America. The only parts of this table to have been changed are the supports for the leaves in an open position. These seem to have been done about 50 years ago and have not been colored to hide them or disguise the truth. The table has not been stripped and the color remains vibrant and desirable with the striations and curling of the wood's grain bright and exciting. The top is 20.50 deep closed and 42 deep with the leaves up.
