About the Item
GEORGE II WALNUT DROP-LEAF TABLE
England, ca. 1750
Item # 402GKT08P
The rich patina was the first thing that caught our attention with this table - the very old historic surface is so nuanced and lovely with centuries of wear preserved in the dense walnut boards, this nearly turning black on the legs and around the apron while having a brilliant silky surface on the top. The table is simple and of such delightful proportions that it can quite literally be placed anywhere.
The gating legs from either side operate in the typical manner on oversized knuckle joints in the frame, firmly raising the leaves over original wrought-iron hinges to allow it to be functionally used as a breakfast table, serving piece, end table or game table without any concern - it will continue to serve in this manner for decades to come if it is properly cared for. The frame is made up of oak secondary woods that are dovetailed into the primary surfaces, these appearing to be walnut though it is difficult to fully examine with the build-up of oxidization.
The table rests over straight tapered legs terminating in padded feet. Exquisite!
Measurements: 28" H x 39" D [opened] x 13 1/2" D [closed] x 36 1/2" W
Condition Report:
Old oxidized historical surface with a nice waxy glow to the overall patina; scuffs, scratches and scars as expected. Repairs to the corner joints of the legs, one with several very old screws mechanically securing the joint. Old (apparently) 19th century L-brackets affixed to the underside to tighten the top to the frame and supplement existing screws through the frame. Shrinkage crack down the center that remains nice and tight, assisted by a very old wrought-iron bar set into the underside of the top.

- Worn and Patinated English Antique Pine Tavern Table DeskLocated in Shippensburg, PAENGLISH WORN AND PATINATED PINE TAVERN TABLE Circa the mid-19th century, with three drawers in the apron Item # 402VDP08Z A richly worn tavern table with a wonderful all-over surface patina from well over a century of life and active use, this gorgeous English tavern table features a large pine table top projecting over a simple frame holding three generous size drawers in the front. Each is hand-dovetailed in the typical manner and is hung with an oversized turned wooden knob. It is raised on four incredibly sturdy and robust tapered legs with large exposed pin joinery throughout. The legs are stretched with short stretchers tenoned into the legs on either side and two full-width stretchers that are dovetailed into the side stretchers. Incredibly beautiful and also super practical for so many applications. It makes a fantastic desk or working table, but is generally used in the kitchen as a breakfast table or as a working table/island. And the rich surface patina gives the new owner a great deal of permission to actively use and contribute to the surface history without fear of damage or deterioration from a few stains or abrasions. Measurements: 29 5/8" H x 28 5/8" D x 80 3/4" W Condition Report: Large square of pine set into the table top to probably replace a knot or area of damage; a stretcher at the back (between the legs along the length of the table) was removed at one point and it appears the center stretchers that are dovetailed into the side stretchers were added - a rather old alteration that allows for foot room. Inactive pest damage throughout with significant wear. About silla antiques...Category
