Designed by Johannes Andersen and Illum Wikkelsø for manufacturer CFC Silkeborg. This gracious set of side tables is designed by Johannes Andersen and Illum Wikkelsø for CFC Silkeborg. The nesting tables feature open rectangles on both side of the table top and below the teak top is a cane plank intended for storage. The design of this nesting set is archetypical Danish. As this design is influenced by the Scandinavian climate, history and weather. With long, dark winters the desire to have a warm, uplifting interior is very important. Next to that, industrialization came to Scandinavia later than to other western countries meaning that craft and handwork has been commonplace for a longer time during the 20th century. These traits of craft and eye for warmth and details is clearly visible in the solid, fluent and well-constructed design of Johannes Andersen and Illum Wikkelsø. Johannes Andersen (1903-1995) was trained as a cabinet maker and opened his own workshop in the 1930s. He is known for his unique organic shapes like the oval the half-triangle or the semi-circle. These shapes were always used to support and work for the human body. Andersen always strived to find the balance between aesthetics and comfort. Illum Wikkelsø (1919-1999) was trained as a carpenter and later studied at the School of Arts and Crafts in Copenhagen. He first worked for the Danish furniture maker Jacob Kjær and the architect Peter Hvidt and Orla Mølgaard until 1954 when he opened his studio on the outskirts of Aarhus. Here he designed especially simple and elegant seating with great functionality now considered classics of Danish furniture design. The style of his work varies from Kaare Klint's classicism Kaare Klints to the soft organic craft by Arne Jacobsen.
