An Important Pair of George III Adam Style Giltwood Pedestals

About the Item

An Important pair of George III giltwood pedestals, each boldly carved with three supporting legs surrounding a serpent-entwined central column ,on trefoil platform base raised on carved feet., the upper section carved with swags and acanthus.. They were used both as torchieres and as pedestals. They have been re-gilt and the tops are ebonised wood This form was popular both in France and England at the end of the 18th century. It was much favoured by Robert Adam 1728-1792
