Antique side table - George fighting the dragon Italy Walnut a.o. Historicism around 1880 Dimensions: H x W x D: 73 cm x 74 cm x 74 cm Description: Very richly inlaid and marquetry piece of furniture. Baluster base with fillet band made of maple and fruitwood. Curved legs with so-called leg shoulder inlay. Marked top edge. The highlight of the table is the top. The center depicts St. George fighting the dragon, framed with fine geometric marquetry. Condition: Refurbished condition. Shellac hand polish. Interesting facts: The town of Sorrento near Naples was famous for its woodworking workshops in the 19th century. This table is absolutely typical of the region. You can find comparable furniture in the literature: Rainer Haaff - Prachtvolle Stilmöbel p. 295
