Markus Haase the Crossover Table in Walnut, USA, 2014

About the Item

In this table Haase demonstrates his amazing ability to imbue wood and stone with an almost preternatural sense of fluidity and movement. His chairs, tables and lamps, grow from the ground as if animated waves or columns of smoke. Haase has been a sculptor working primarily in stone for over 20 years. From modernist sculpture to architectural restoration, he brings a wide variety of techniques and perspectives to the first functional series of his career, wood and stone. Selection of woods offered but not limited to are American black walnut, sapele and maple. Haase’s inaugural furniture series is the result of years of sketching, sculpting, and pent-up creativity. Haase was formally educated and apprenticed as a stone sculptor in Germany. There he developed his eye for organic form and his virtuosity with diverse materials. By day Haase used his sculpting skills to restore centuries-old Gothic cathedrals, and by night he used the same skills to explore contemporary sculptural form. Over the last decade, Haase has worked on the restoration of some of the most important cathedrals in Northern Germany, including St Johannis in Göttingenm, St. Michaelis in Hildesheim and Beate Mariae Virginis in Wolfenbüttel. These experiences have led him to become one of the most accomplished sculptors working in stone today. Dimensions: 24″ H x 26″ D x 25″ W.
