Rare Margaret Bruton Mosaic Tables
About the Item
These glass mosaic tables are early one off 1950's examples which came directly from the original owners home in Monterey. Having triangular metal frames with triangular formed tile work laid on cement with each one signed by the artist on the bottom. Both Margaret, Esther's and Helen's work is scarce and rarely becomes available.
Bruton studied at the SF Institute of Art under Frank Van Sloun, four years at the Art Students League of New york under Frank V. DuMond and Robert Henri, in 1918 she studied with Armin Hansen in Monterey and in 1924 she relocated there from San Francisco. 1925 saw her in Paris to study at the Academie de la Grande Chaumiere, had her first solo exhibition at the Beaux Arts Gallery in SF in 1926.
Trips were made to New Mexico (1929) to live among the Pueblo Indians and to Nevada (1933) to sketch the old ghost towns. Member of San Francisco Society of Women Artists, SF Art Association, Beaux Arts Club of SF, California Society of Etchers, she exhibited at many shows in which she received many awards and prizes during the 1920's.
