Charles Hollis Jones table, Lucite with brass bolt details, circa 1980s, American. This coffee table has been gently cleaned while respecting the vintage patina; it is ready to use. The bold use of Lucite, bevelled edges to refract light and the solid brass detailing are characteristic of the work of Charles Hollis Jones, the attributed designer of this coffee table. The strong geometric Neoclassical forms and proportions in clear reflective Lucite keep this design light and Modern. The design combines Postmodernism & Brutalism to great decorative and sculptural effect. The result is a coffee table well suited for a range of interiors such as Art Deco, modernist, Hollywood Regency, 1970s glamour, Postmodern, contemporary or Industrial. Made of thick panels of clear Lucite with a profile of 6 cm, the design cleverly combines the top and stepped plinth bases. On the top, the thickness of the Lucite is highlighted with bevelling. On the two bases the thickness is playfully reflected in the stepped profile. Each pedestal base is composed by four stepped panels. These appear to be held together by a set of two large decorative solid brass bolts connected by a brass tube running inside the Lucite surface. Each bolt is used as a design feature and has a diameter of 6 cm, the same dimension as the Lucite panel`s thickness. The top is separated from the bases making this table easy to dismantle for moving or transporting. This vintage coffee table is in very good condition. The frame is sound and strong. The brass is in good condition with minor rubbing to the lacquer, tarnished with age adding character. The original vintage Lucite glass top is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, burns or damages or discoloration, and only minor superficial marks in a couple of areas in line with age and wear. Packing is offered free of charge. We take special professional care while packing. The top would be removed and wrapped separately in bubble wrap and an outer layer of card. The two portions of the pedestal base would have bubble wrap and an outer layer of card if necessary. This table could fit easily in a box for safe shipping. Charles Hollis Jones Biography: Charles Hollis Jones is an American artist and furniture designer who is recognized by the Smithsonian Institution for his pioneering use of acrylic and Lucite. He has worked with many high-profile clients including: Frank Sinatra, Lucille Ball, Diana Ross, John Lautner, and Tennessee Williams. His design products and furniture are very much sought after today because with the quality and properties of the materials like Lucite and brass, they complement and add glamour easily any interior decor scheme.
