Alias Large 08C Manzù Turn Table in Grey Anodised Top with White Lacquered Frame by Pio Manzù
Round table with base in lacquered plastic material (internal frame in steel). Top in lacquered MDF (*). Central turning plate Ø63 cm in:- lacquered aluminium- anodized aluminium- marble faced aluminium (smooth finish with water-repellent and stain resistant treatment)
(1939-1969) He was the son of the great sculptor Giacomo Manzù. 1959 he began his studies as an industrial designer joining the Hochschule für Gestaltung at Ulm graduating with a thesis on the “safe tractor”. Since 1967 he worked as a consultant for Fiat, designing the City Taxi, the Autobianchi Coupé and the Fiat 127. He also focused on creating other objects, like Cronotime produced by the Ritz Italora; the Parentesi lamp for Flos and the “physiological armchair” designed in 1967 for La Rinascente and launched by Alias in 2011 as manzù armchair.

This Dining table or desk, titled the model "Tesi" from 1986, was designed by Mario Botta and produced by Alias. The perforated sheet steel structure is lacquered in black with a rectangular glass top. This iconic table demonstrates the influence of Le Corbusier, Louis Kahn and Carlo Scarpa on Botta’s work. During the 1980s, famous Swiss architect, Mario Botta worked with the manufacturer Alias as a designer on a whole range of furniture. Botta’s ingenious designs are often composed of simple geometric shapes, while also creating unique complex spaces. See images 3, 8 and 9 in this posting to see some of his stunning architectural works. This listing is a rare opportunity to acquire one of the last examples of the original production of this collectible and iconic design.
