Art Deco Writing Table and Chair by Sue et Mare

DESK AND CHAIR BY SUE ET MARE A French Art Deco ladies writing desk and chair of exceptional quality by Louis Sue and Andre Mare produced around 1925, it is solid walnut with octagonal legs with ornate carving to the top, the sides are scalloped with reeded detail, it has a single drawer to the front that has hand cut dovetail joints with oak sides and solid cedar drawer liner, the chair is solid walnut with shaped delicate form having a silver gilt carved panel in the back with a scalloped top, the desk has been restored where necessary and fully polished by hand and the chair is in its original polish and has been cleaned and waxed, the seat has been fully upholstered and covered in Jean Paul Gautier fabric to match the carved panel , the top covering can easily be changed if not to your taste but I think it sits well.     LOUIS SUE AND ANDRE MARE This rare Art Deco large oval mirror made by Sue and Mare (Louis Sue, 1875-1968, and Andre Mare, 1887-1932) has a frame of hand-carved gilt wood. The upper section has a floral carving with silver gilding that extends to golden vases on the sides, with another floral carving on the bottom section. The original bevelled glass is still intact with minor foxing. Many of their designs consisted of sumptuous materials, fine craftsmanship, and freshly cut motifs. They made their creations in the limited, exclusive range of small editions or even pieces made for the wealthy people.
