About the Item

Base: 1 x PT12 Sand Cast Brass Base finishes: Golden Sand Dimensions: Ø 76 x H 71 cm 29.9" x 28" in. Armando Benato, the skilled Italian artisan, embarked on a remarkable journey in the world of bronze craftsmanship. At the tender age of 14, he took his first steps into the craft under the guidance of his uncle, who had already established a close collaboration with the legendary Salvador Dalí. This early exposure granted Armando the extraordinary privilege of working alongside Salvador Dalí from a young age. In his middle years, Armando made a bold decision to relocate to Thailand, where he established his own bronze workshop in the charming locale of Rayong on the eastern side of the country. With his new factory in place, he delved into the creation of bronze artworks that celebrated the rich tapestry of Thai culture. His portfolio expanded to include magnificent sculptures of Buddhas, as well as intricate historical panels meticulously cast in bronze. It was during this time that we had the privilege of crossing paths with Armando. His unwavering passion and dedication to his craft made him not only a collaborator but also a cherished friend. Now, at the age of 86, Armando continues to find joy and fulfillment in his creative work, and his commitment to craftsmanship remains as strong as ever. In our collection, we initiated our journey with a couple of foundational base designs. It all began with the modest yet versatile PT2 base, and over time, our selection has grown steadily, driven by our unwavering trust in Armando's craftsmanship. With each new addition, we knew that Armando's skilled hands would ensure perfection, making it inconceivable for any mistake to mar the excellence of our bases. Sand cast bronze, brass and aluminum We are wood-specialists. We outsource the casting of our metals to a true specialist: Armando is an Italian bronze-master who used to work for Salvador Dali way back when. Craft any-one? He moved his foundry from Monza, Italy, to Thailand now 30 years ago. His major client is the Vatican. We are truly blessed. He is currently training our team to ensure his vast experience will live on. Please note that the whole sand-casting process is also completely done by hand, step-by-step, for each base: a traditional and time consuming technique which, as the woodwork we offer, can never be 'Perfect." Our bases show traces of this technique: some air-bubbles remain in the metal, some weld-marks will be visible as will some tooling traces: brushed lines, some surfaces will be a bit more matte than others.
