About the Item
An ‘imbizo’ is a forum or meeting called by a traditional Xhosa or Zulu leader, where important matters relating to the community or village are discussed. Maweni’s Imbizo design pieces are a modern-day version; a place for people to get together and share a meal or drink. Every part of the Imbizo table has been handcrafted, including the surface of the wooden table which has been carved by the artist. Each stool in the set is completely unique in shape, colour and patterning. Their striking silhouettes are adorned with precisely ridged bands, hand-carved textures and geometric incisions. Since its inception, the Imbizo range has spawned an iconic new direction for Maweni that has included plinths, lighting, seating and tables.
