Massive Antique George III 1780 Hardwood Library Desk Table George Rex Locks

We are delighted to offer for sale this exquisite George III circa 1780-1800 extra large Library table writing desk with period George Rex stamped locks This piece will honestly leave you speechless, firstly, it is enormous, both in width and depth, all the timber is hand carved from solid slabs of mahogany, there are brass fittings along the sides of the drawers, I'm not actually sure what they do, this piece seats 12 with ease, it breaks into three pieces for the top and the legs are all removable so it is very easy to transport and install The top is Rexene, it is very old but perfectly usable, I can have a hand made cattle hide leather fitted should the new owner wish of any colour they like, plus tooling for the cost price. The locks have various stamps, one of which is pictured and is stamped GR Under the crown for George Rex who was a George II & George III locksmith, its also stamped Barrons Patant who were well known suppliers to Gillows of Lancaster In terms of the condition we have cleaned waxed and polished it from top to bottom, the piece will have normal age and use related patina marks here and there Dimensions Height:- 82cm Width:- 388cm as mentioned this splits into three pieces for ease of transport Depth:- 228cm Legroom Height:- 63.5cm Please note all measurements are taken at the widest point, if you would like any additional or specific measurements please ask Any questions please feel free to ask before you bid Condition Please view the very detailed pictures as they form part of the description around condition Please note vintage period and original items such as leather seating will always have natural patina in the form of cracking creasing and wear, we recommend regular waxing to ensure no moisture is lost, also hand dyed leather is not recommended to sit in direct sunlight for prolonged periods of time as it will dry out and fade.
