Rare Regency Lacquered Writing Table

About the Item

The Japanese lacquered box hinged to open to an adjustable fabric-inset writing surface, inset in a Stand with twin supports in the Chinese taste. This exceptional desk is very much evocative of the exotic style made fashionable by the Royal Pavilion in Brighton and designed by John Nash for the Prince Regent. The Prince’s bedroom at the Pavilion was indeed decorated in the Chinese style with lacquered furniture and chinoiserie motifs.
