George IV Mahogany Jupes Table

About the Item

A very large and extremely rare William 1V mahogany extending Jupes table By Johnstone and Jeanes. The round extendable top with two original sets of leaves, retaining the original leaf holder, resting on a central pillar with four shoot of moulded sabre legs on later brass cup castors, the well figured mahogany top measures 5ft 8inches when closed and expands to make a 7ft round table with the smaller leaves or a 9ft round table with the larger leaves, the design for these tables patent in 1835 by Robert Jupe and John Jonstone, 67 New Bond street London, By 1842 Jupe had left the partnership, which then became Jonstone & Jeanes. Johnston retained the patient for the table invented by Jupe. This is one of the largest examples of these tables, it retains the original Johnstone & Jean Stamped tablet.
