Spice Oort resin side table by Creators Of Objects

These smooth, rounded forms were inspired by the OORT CLOUD — a theoretical cloud of icy planetesimals that encircle our solar
system. We imagined these objects being gently eroded over the eons, as they travel amongst the cloud.
OORT are created in our Toronto studio using the process of rotocasting. Resin is added layer by layer from the inside, and turned by
hand, to build up structure and colour depth. The process takes many days, and while the exterior forms are measured and polished,
the interiors tell the story of its creation. Small random bubbles and slight variances in wall thickness make each piece beautiful and
unique.
At Creators of Objects we investigate the connection between art and design. Explorations of texture, transparency, saturation and luminescence.
The relationship between weight, structure and material quality invites you to touch and explore.
Creators of Objects is the Toronto based collaborative studio project of Jonathan deSwaaf and Joanne Byrne.
Known for our cast resin work and commissioned installations, our made to order collection includes furniture, accessories, objects and art.
Influenced by colour, light, transluscency and material exploration, we create familiar new forms while also taking impressions of everyday items, using new materials and juxtapositions that shift the perception of those objects.
Pieces are made one by one with a “future analog” approach that embraces experimentation, technology, precision, modern materials and processes blended with traditional practices that leave hand made traces and imperfections.
