Tel Aviv Dining Table by Gisbert Pöppler

About the Item

Tel Aviv dining table by Gisbert Pöppler Dimensions: D 400 x W 100 x H 75 cm Materials: Glazed Lava Stone,Stainless steel The segments and how they are composed to form this outdoor table were inspired by the short intense shadows of the bright midday sun in Tel Aviv. The ten elements that make up the table top are hewn out of lava stone from the Sicilian volcano Etna. They appear thick but have been meticulously hollowed out specifically in order to insert a concealed stainless-steel frame that joins them together. Using an ancient technique developed in this region called Majolica, the pieces have been glazed in a kiln at 950 degrees that protects them with a robust surface suitable for outdoor use and provides the translucent colors with a slight craquelé for the finish. The tabletop has a vibrant appearance due to this surface treatment, which is countered by the dark polished lava stone of the trigonal legs celebrating the powerful Mediterranean play of light. All of their upholstery pieces are COM prices. The prices do not include any fabric. Gisbert Pöppler studied architecture at California College of Arts and Crafts, San Francisco and Technische Universität, Berlin, graduating in 1996 with a Diplom Ingenieur. After completing his studies he spent several years working for various firms in Berlin, developing new architecture after the German re-unification. In 1999 Gisbert Pöppler founded Prinz–Pöppler, a partnership with architect Ilona Prinz – together creating office environments for start-up organizations filling the dynamic Berlin landscape. Since 2004 Gisbert Pöppler has been working independently as a full-service architectural studio, offering unconventional end-to-end design solutions for corporate and residential clients.

  • Kayak Teak Dining Table by Gisbert Pöppler
    Located in Geneve, CH
Kayak teak dining table by Gisbert Pöppler Dimensions: D 320 x W 110 x H 75 cm Materials: Maple wood Perfectly balanced and sturdy like the sleek boat and hunter of the arctic, the Kayak dinner table is a playful construction of wood and steel. Four glossy circles puncture the table top indicating the cylinders supporting it and interrupt the gentile grain of the surface. The wooden top has a trim that neatly angles outward like a rolled Kayak, while the legs below are joined together with a technical yet sculptural approach reminiscent of the framework for its namesake vessel. This table easily sits eight to ten people comfortably and adds the perfect sporty element into its environment. Breakfast patio table by Gisbert Pöppler Dimensions: D 80 x W 80 x H 72 cm Materials: Glazed lavastone The simplicity of forms and cheerful glazed colors of this side table make it suitable for almost any space, outdoor or inside. This petit furniture is a bit more robust than it appears, being cut and shaped out of lava stone from the foot of Sicily’s famous volcano, Mt. Etna. The three pieces have been glazed in a kiln at 950 degrees, using an ancient technique developed in this region called Majolica, that protects them with a robust surface suitable for outdoor use and provides the translucent colors with a slight craquelé for the finish. Spine is a series of tables consisting of two components, a thin aluminum sheet captured in a cast resin surface. The series is a result of many material explorations concerned with bent forms and enhanced flexibility. The spine of each table is formed from a 10mm plate of aluminum. The aluminum is scored on both sides, allowing for the dramatic curve to be formed. The aluminum is anodized and set in place before the resin surface is cast around the skeletal form. As the resin bonds it constrains the aluminum, suspending the spines´ curve and creating the tables structure. Traces of the organic curve remain visible through the polished resin...
