About the Item
'Totem' is a round table carved in travertino. It is supported on a slender pillar consisting of strong, yet plastic, geometric volumes.
Drawing inspiration from the sacredness of original totems, on.entropy uses the spiritual symbolism to honor togetherness & gratification. According to original african cultures ''during meal times, family members can use totems to appreciate the person who cooked or brought food on the table''.
Totem can comfortable sit 4 people and it can be customised for a bigger or small space accordingly. It can be used either as a dining or entrance table.
'Totem' is available in a range of marble and travertine colours (white, green, black marble and red, beige, brown, grey travertine). Kindly note that the price changes according to the marble used. All pores are filled with a unique recipe, so that the materiality becomes apparent yet discreet, while the surface even more durable.
As with all works by on.entropy, engaging the user senses is central to the design narrative.
on.entropy wishes to metamorphose marble and provide triggers within space, which interrupt the automated ways we perceive materiality & the surrounding space. Here plasticity is key: a rigid and stern material transforms to a plastic, smoothe entity. To do that, on.entropy has craftsmanship at their heart. Every item created is the result of an in-depth dialogue between the designers & the marble sculptors. It is hoped that a future to this ancient art is cultivated.
Totem celebrates the transformation of monolithic volume into a plastic and elegant form that brings people together.

on • entropy is a marble atelier established since 2009 in London & Athens by Niki and Zoe Moskofoglou. Marble, an archetypal greek material, takes on an unconventional role in on • entropy's designs; they encapsulate the contradiction of being heavy and compact and at the same time vulnerable, fragile and translucent. Its diverse character is the core of the atelier’s founding mission: to experiment with marble and its entropy;
The result is the craftsmanship of intricate and delicate creations, evolving its diachronic qualities in an imaginative & contemporary way. Created and run by sisters Niki and Zoe Moskofoglou, on • entropy is the fruit of a 40 years long family affair with marble in Greece. NM is an architect with an academic training in Design. Her work demonstrates an architectural detailing and instinct of how Space and Object can surpass mere function.
ZM is a civil engineer with expertise in Sustainable Heritage. From the cultural landscape of the quarry to refined marble, she wants to offer a Future to the Past human and natural environment. NZM founded their design studio to reflect both art and craft. Pushing the boundaries of marble,
their work begins with the human experience and an interaction with the senses; it demands contemplation. Today on • entropy creations are presented at established european galleries including Rossana Orlandi and Mint, while collaborations on commercial projects (Le Bon Marche, Four Seasons) carry on.
