About the Item

A striking contemporary work by the British painter Russell Hedges. This piece, titled Sunset to Moonrise, was painted in 2009. This painting is part of a series titled Water Marks & Sea Pieces. Russell says these paintings represent the continuing evolution of his work. They have developed out of years of daily note-taking and sketch-making. When considering the purely visual interpretation of these diaries, they began to parallel for him, something oceanic or sea-like; a compelling form of sea-watching. The exploration of the calligraphic movement of his natural “hand” stimulated the equivalent of a sort of sea-writing. Biography: Russell gained a 1st class BA in Fine Art at Norwich School of Art, followed by an MA at Chelsea School of Art in 1983. He has lived, worked and taught in Cornwall and Spain for almost 30 years. Russell has been a committee member of both the Newlyn Society of Artists and the St. Ives Society of Artists.
