About Carlos Alves
Carlos Alves has been serious about art since he was a child and it shows in his passion for making things out of clay, glass, metal, salvaged artifacts, and recycled objects. Drawing from his Cuban roots and his Miami, Florida upbringing, Carlos’ themes encompass love, hope, history, culture, politics, nature and a kinship with the sea.
He graduated with an MFA from Illinois State University and a BFA, University of Miami and a scholarship to Scuola Lorenzo Di Medici in Florence Italy.
Alves kick-started his post-college career with a free flowing tile installation located on the floor and walls of the Art Center South Florida. The project eventually led to commissions by a number of public and private clients in the US, and from London, to Hong Kong.
