Espada "Lovers" Three-Dimensional Fiberglass Wall Sculpture
About the Item
Espada "Lovers" Three-Dimensional Fiberglass Wall Sculpture
Strikingly modernist, the "Lovers" figural wall sculpture by Espada (for Finesse Originals) is truly a conversation piece. This Brutalist style piece features six androgynous couples on a sand-covered background. This is a rare and collectible piece of early fiberglass art. Dating to the 1960s, this is one of the early examples of art using fiberglass as a medium. The first commercial production of fiberglass was in 1936.
The wall sculpture is signed "Espada" in the cast, lower left. The frame is also constructed of molded fiberglass, although it appears to be a rustic plank of ebonized wood. On the reverse side, a metal bar supports the piece. The wall sculpture hangs from a chain.
Condition issues:
There is a small area of missing fiberglass on the outer right corner of the figural portion of this piece. It can only be seen if looking from the right side.
