Signed Antoine d'Agata “Eclipse. Tbilisi, Georgia" Print, 2009
About the Item
For sale an original signed museum-quality Magnum photographic print by renowned French artist Antoine d'Agata.
Titled "Eclipse. Tbilisi, Georgia. 2009", this Magnum print is a time-limited edition that was only available to purchase for a period of five days.
The work is signed to the back together with an affixed archival label which carries the image’s accompanying text and is printed on Fuji Crystal Archive Matte paper. The piece is mounted in a white lacquered frame.
The accompanying text by the artist reads:
"Endless waking, anesthesia of the senses, a pure state of presence inside the world. Incurable cycle of survival. Existence reduced to the function of absorption. Torn, devoured beings collapse into insignificance, live the infamy and rid themselves of slavery through the satisfaction of instinct, seeking sensation at any cost, aware in their flesh of the economical condition imposed on them. Possessed by rage, condemned to wander in a maze of mirrors that offer to see true life without ever touching it and that infinitely multiply invitations to discontent and separation; bodies surrender to fear as they liberate themselves from the weight of reason. Contagion, cruelty, spasms of wavering consciousness. A figure breaks away from the form and the idea, between the end of civilization and the debacle of origins. Scream. Disappearance of all logic in the face of horror. Everyday, she dies.”
About the artist:
D'Agata's work deals with addiction, sex, personal obsessions, darkness, prostitution, and other topics widely considered taboo. He often uses his own life experiences as source material. "My intimacy is linked so much to my work, and my work depends so much on my intimate experiences of the world. It's all intermingled." D'Agata has been a full member of Magnum Photos since 2008. He has published more than a dozen books and three films. In 2001 he won the Niépce Prize for young photographers. (Artsy)
