'Orb Series' by Sabine Mezkaze Berzina (b.1988) reflect influences of architectonic detailing by Italian architect Carlo Scarpa, French-Romanian artist Constantin Brancusi and others, as wall as an appreciation of nature and natural, imperfect forms in ways of Japanese interpretation through concept of Wabi-sabi. Wood artwork is a large scale interpretation of ink drawings created as a synthesis of study in various fields such as sacred geometry, cymatics, ancient Baltic tradition and numerology. Each work is accomplished through seemingly similar motif and symbolisms - orb as an energy (individual) in an abstract time-space setting - and is expressing various states of mental focus - calmness, longing, creation, initiation, transcendence - revealing a parallel spectrum of emotional everyday life. From an initial sketch to a finished artwork 5 stages of manual work are required: from hand-picking wood grain material to cutting, gluing, high pressure pressing and painting, staining and highlighting.
