John P. Coleman (1921 - 2017)
John P. Coleman was born in Hutchinson, Kansas to Alice and Aaron Coleman.
As a young man, John served four years in the Army during World War Il in Louisiana, China and India. He received four Bronze Stars in the 127th Signal Radio Intelligence Company and the Marksmen's Medal.
John graduated from the KC Art Institute in 1950 where he received the Logan Watercolor Prize. He taught art at Paseo High School, Hallmark, Bingham Junior High School and 19 years at Longview Community College (38 years total). John painted with ten artist friends, known as the Fred James Groupe, every weekend for 25 years. He painted in France, Italy, Mexico, Martha's Vineyard, and all over Missouri and Kansas.
