Vintage Mounted "Sademetsa" Marimekko Textile, Katsuji Wakisaka 1974 Acorns

About the Item

A piece of Katsuji Wakisaka's "Sademetsa" textile design for Marimekko from 1974 mounted on wood stretcher. The large print of oak leaves and acorns is large scale with big impact. This pattern came in other color combinations, but is fairly uncommon. The original cotton fabric width is 54" and selvedge remains on both sides. Printed in selvedge: Marimekko (registered symbol) Katsuji Wakisaka: "Sademetsa" and (copyright symbol) Marimekko Oy 1974 Suomi-Finland Very good condition. No tears or stains, with the exception of a few very small discolorations, as shown in photos. They appear as pale orange-ish spots on the white ground. I have not tried to clean them. Measures: 32" wide x 50" tall Katsuji Wakisaka Japanese designer Katsuji Wakisaka created print patterns for Marimekko from 1968 to 1976 and again in 2001. His designs are characterized by a free and playful approach to pattern composition and a vivid and exuberant color palette. In 1975, he designed the Bo Boo print – an instant classic upon its introduction depicting cars and busses. Especially in the United States, Bo Boo inspired a wonderfully varied and colorful assortment of products, including bed linens, towels, bags, and tableware.
