From an important thirty year old New England collection of Arts & Crafts furnishings.
Four unique works of art, circa 1890.
This is a beautiful 19th century set of four (4) hand incised wooden panels - all hand incised and hand painted and dating to the 19th century. Each panel is incised with a different romantic female "seasonal motif " In addition, each panel is incised with old English Shakespearean verse and embellished with prolific natural flower and vine patterns.
Dimensions: Each panel is 21.5" high and is 8.5 inches wide. All are nicely framed with later contemporary black frames
Handmade, hand carved, stained and hand burned using pyrographic techniques
Provenance: Thirty year old New England collection.
History of the Pyrography:
py·rog·ra·phy, a noun, is the art or technique of decorating wood or leather by burning a design on the surface with a heated metallic point. Pyrography was particular popular in America and Europe during the last quarter of the 19th century and first quarter of the 20th century.
