Fine Vintage Japanese Kuro Tomesode Kimono

A fine Japanese Kuro Tomesode Kimono, circa 1950s. silk kimono robe in dove grey with an abstract pattern. The fine design was done with Yuzen, a painstaking resistant dye technique using rice starch. Yuzen was invented in the 17th century and used in traditional kimono making. The Yuzen created an amazing imagery on this piece, taking the full advantage of what the technique can achieve. On a gradual black background. A wonderful textile for collectors. Hand painted and hand-sewn in Japan, circa 1950. Total width 48" Shoulders 24” across Bust 22” flat Waist 22” flat Hips 22” flat Length 71”, Measured flat.
