Large Hand-Crafted Leather Tribal Tuareg Berber Sahara Bag

About the Item

A beautiful antique North African Tuareg Sahara bag. Tribally hand crafted, dyed, embroidered, leather bag with long fringe. The Tuareg are Berber people with a traditionally nomadic pastoralist lifestyle. They are the principal inhabitants of the vast Sahara Desert. Tightly woven colorful leather strips make up an intricate geometric tribal African pattern on the front, leading to an excess of fringe along the bottom. Flat tote body has a fold over design with a large closure and large patch pocket on the front, Very popular in the Hippie Boho era. Thick strap is long enough to wear crossbody. However, this bag is very old, made of heavy leather, that is now very dry, would look great framed for hanging on the wall as a decorative object. Measures: 45" high/long x 13 3/4" wide x 3" deep or thick.
