About the Item

Anna Gravelle is a designer with a reputation for creating innovative fabrics and architectural art for private and public spaces. Her designs are developed through exploring traditional and contemporary processes which are realized using printed pattern and tufting. She works with British wool cloth and fine embroidery threads. 'Murmuration' is inspired by the natural phenomenon of thousands of starlings flocking before roosting. Its movement and texture is intriguing and makes for a wonderful conversation piece. An engagement with materials and the process of making drives Anna's design practice. Her handcrafted textiles are designed in response to her fascination with textural landscapes and interpreting them through drawing, photography and mark making into stitch and print. Texture is at the heart of her design process with the aim of creating a beguiling and unexpected tactile experience. Murmuration is a unique piece and can be made to custom size and color, however Anna will also respond to unique commission requests for private and public spaces. The main panel is wool based cloth with a linen backing cloth. An image of the artist turning the fabric over prior to backing is included to illustrate that the artist only sees this side of the fabric as she works. The measurement provided of 150cm width includes the hanging system. This is a polished acrylic bar with standing screws supplied making hanging as simply as hanging a painting. The textile sits away from the wall by 2cm creating a natural shadow and added layer of three-dimensionality. An acrylic bar also supplied to slide into the bottom edge of the textile. This is not fixed but designed to weight the textile for an even hang. Please note installing the work can be included in white glove shipping. Weight: 4.5kg including hanging system.
