PAIR OF MONUMENTAL CARVED PANELS FROM THE 18TH CENTURY
IMPORTANT SPANISH BAROQUE 18TH CENTURY WOODEN PANELS ATTRIBUTED TO: Luis Bonifás y Massó-Valls, 1730 - Valls, 1786) was a Spanish sculptor and one of the leading exponents of Catalan Baroque sculpture
He studied in his grandfather's workshop and in 1752 his professional work began. In 1763 he obtained the academic title of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando in Madrid. He worked throughout Catalonia, as well as in Madrid and Puerto Rico. He was the author, among other works, of San Miguel in the church of San Miguel del Puerto (1755); the dressing room of Mercy, in Reus (1756); the altarpiece of San Ignacio, in La Granadella (1762); those of Victoria (1762) and of Dolores (1779) in Valls; the main altarpiece of Cubells (1764) and the choir of the cathedral of Lérida, one of the most important works of the Baroque in Catalonia, with more than a hundred images in high relief (1775-1779). All these works disappeared during the Civil War.
