Drawing by Ervin Neuhaus

Ervin Neuhaus, an exponent of the Abstraction Organique movement, created this work by placing his pen on the paper, and without lifting it off, drawing - from left to right - a continuous row of organisms, some vaguely anthropomorphic, all blending in and out of each other and apparently interacting in an extraordinary display of both biological fantasy and confident draughtsmanship. Five such rows make up this fascinating drawing. Signed and dated by the artist, and stamped on the reverse with the mark of his atelier.
