About the Item
Showing the Royal Couple Mary Tudor and Phillip of Spain at their wedding in 1554, this poster created for British Railways to advertise Winchester was part of a small series by the company with artwork from Claude Henry Buckle to promote the historical significance of British cities.
With Winchester Cathedral's front facade looking stunning in the sun, the beautiful scene reads "Winchester - Where History Lingers". The poster was published by the Railway Executive (Southern Region), and printed in Great Britain by Jordison & Co Ltd. Claude Henry Buckle was a well established commercial artist for railway posters including working with GWR, LMS, SR & British Railways.
