1955 TWA Disneyland Original Vintage Poster
About the Item
This poster was created in 1955 for Howard Hughes’ Trans World Airlines promoting their routes to Disneyland in California, USA. Illustrated by influential American artist David Klein, this design features a wonderful view of the legendary Disneyland Park including lost relics such as the TWA Moonliner attraction. As well as the iconic Disneyland "Sleeping Beauty" Castle, the Jungle Cruise and Main Street Railway Station are also featured on the wonderful mid-century design. Exceptionally rare, this 1955 poster was created in conjunction with the parks first opening.
Hughes and TWA collaborated with Klein on many posters during the height of the golden-era of aviation from the 50’s through to the 70’s. These posters have become synonymous with that golden, mid-Century era of design. This beautiful poster has been backed on museum quality linen to ensure its preservation for the decades to come.

David Klein
David Klein was an immensely prolific travel posterist who worked primarily for TWA and produced dozens of posters for the now-defunct global carrier. He designed several different series for TWA, ranging from early work that was realistic to later work that was cartoon-like in style. David Klein was born in El Paso, Texas in February of 1918. He moved to California where he attended the Art Center School [later renamed the Art Center College of Design] in Los Angeles. During the 1930s, he was an active member of the California Watercolor Society. This group of artists often chose to paint watercolors depicting scenes of everyday life in the cities and suburbs of California. They painted directly with little or no preliminary pencil drawings and used paper as a ‘color’ in a new and creative way.
