About the Item

This collection was assembled in France over the course of 30 years by one passionate collector. It includes 4000 French movie posters, some ancient French advertising posters and some cinema memorabilia. There is a detailed list of every poster and every item in the collection, noting their condition, plus photos of about half the posters- all available via a link which 1stdibs will provide upon request. There are many pre-1970 posters, when incredible artists like Jules Chéret, Kerfyser, Guy Gérard Noël, Belinsky, Mascii, Roger Soubie who could capture the spirit of a show or movie into an art drawing or painting. Looking at some of these posters brings you into the magic of the story, film or show. These colorful old lithographed posters are true works of art. There are a few different poster sizes in the collection. Most are in the large French format, but some are in the small format and vertical (pantalon) format and some are in the largest, multiple panel sizes. Some of the posters are on linen fabric while others are on paper. Although most of the collection are posters, included in it are also some black and white "making of" film photos (i.e.: various photos of Barbra Streisand from the making of "Funny Girl" etc.), cardboard promotions plus some world war II catalogues and war posters. It is truly an amazing French collection. To amass such a vast colof this quality now would be incredibly difficult. It would be wonderful to share it with other- maybe as rotating restaurant art or framed and hung on the walls in a company setting to inspire the staff or as a historic record of the evolution of such amazing poster art and artists, the possibilities for this collection and its enjoyment are endless.
