About the Item
It’s no exaggeration to say that ‘Kabaret’ by Wiktor Gorka is one of the most iconic and important Polish posters ever created. Designed in 1973 it is a very rare Polish film poster by one of the most prominent artists of his generation. Bold, striking and provocative, this poster is an investment which is likely to grow over time and an authentic and unique piece of graphic design history.
The film Cabaret is a 1972 musical adaptation of the 1966 Broadway musical. Directed by Bob Fosse it starred Liza Minnelli, Michael York, Helmut Griem, Marisa Berenson, Fritz Wepper and Joel Grey. It tells the story of a club entertainer (Liza Minelli) who, in Weimar Republic era Berlin, romances two men while the Nazi Party rises to power around them. The poster depicts the Master of Ceremonies (Joel Grey) singing from the spinning legs of Liza Minnelli, which have been formed in the shape of a Swastika.
