About the Item

Original vintage poster for Air France. Along with the logo of the company (the pegasus / dragon-tailed horse also called the shrimp, 1933-1975), there is a bedouin with two camels on the shores of the Bosporus in Turkey. On the other shore, we can see Sainte Sophia, an emblematic monument of Istanbul (Constantinople). Jean Even was born in Paris July 14th, 1910, and died in Plessis-Robinson, close to Paris, January 5th, 1986. He was a painter, lithographer and poster artist. He studied at the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts in Paris from 1932 where he was student of André Devambez and Charles-François-Prosper Guérin. He first exhibited his paintings at the Salon des artistes français – Silver medal 1935 and gold medal 1939 – and won the Casa Velázquez prize in 1936. At the same time he worked as a poster artist and designed a large number of posters for Algeria, Morocco and Tunisia in the 1940’s. During these years Air France commissioned a series of posters from him: Near East, North America, Spain, Africa and Israel.
