Original Vintage Poster Cooks For Winter Sports Skiing British Railways Travel

About the Item

Original vintage ski travel poster - Cooks for Winter Sports Travel by British Railways Train and Steamer Services - featuring a fun design depicting a couple racing down a snowy mountain with two peaks below the title text on the blue sky above, the hat flying off the man skiing at speed and the lady in a red headscarf looking at him, the information text below - Ask for free programme at any office of Cooks, Dean & Dawson, Pickfords or appointed booking agents. Founded in 1841 by Thomas Cook (1808-1892), this British travel agency initially offered excursions by train in the UK before expanding to tours of Europe and America; the company name changed to Thomas Cook & Son in 1871 (known as Cook's Tours) and was later renamed Thomas Cook Group plc; the company was liquidated in 2019. One of the oldest travel agencies, Dean & Dawson was founded in the late 1800s as a merger between Joseph Dean (who formed a travel agency 1871 and printing company in 1890) and businessman John Dawson; the agency's first holiday package tour was to Paris in 1878 and the company was run in partnership with the railways; in 1938 it was taken over by Thomas Cook; the printers still exist today as Deanprint and the travel agency offers bespoke and specialist holidays as Dean & Dawson. Fair condition, large restored paper losses on the image, restored tears, staining, ink stamp on the top left corner, writing on the reverse, backed on linen.
